Establish a thriving quail population with our carefully selected breeding groups. Each group is composed to ensure genetic diversity and optimal breeding success, tailored to support your quail farming goals.

  • Balanced Ratios: Each group includes an appropriate male-to-female ratio to promote high fertility rates.
  • Genetically Diverse: Selected to enhance the health and productivity of offspring.
  • Comprehensive Support: Ideal for both novice and experienced breeders aiming for sustainable quail production.

Invest in a breeding group to ensure a continuous and healthy quail lineage for your farm or homestead.

Minimum Purchase Requirement: To ensure the well-being of our quail, we require a minimum purchase of 5 birds. Quail are inherently social creatures that thrive in groups, known as coveys, which typically consist of 10 to 15 birds.

This social structure is vital for their safety and overall health, as quail engage in sentinel behavior—taking turns watching for predators while others forage or rest.

Maintaining a group dynamic reduces stress and promotes natural behaviors, leading to happier and healthier birds.

  • Understanding the life cycle of Jumbo Coturnix quail provides valuable insights for prospective keepers. Here's an overview of their development stages:

    1. Egg Incubation

    • Duration: Approximately 17 days.
    • Process: Fertilized eggs are incubated under controlled temperature and humidity until hatching.

    2. Hatching and Chick Development

    • Hatchlings: Chicks emerge fully covered in down and are precocial, meaning they are mobile and can feed themselves shortly after hatching.
    • Early Life: They require warmth from a brooder to maintain body temperature during the initial weeks.

    3. Juvenile Stage

    • Feathering: Around 2 weeks, chicks begin developing juvenile feathers, replacing their down.
    • Growth: Rapid growth occurs, with quail reaching near-adult size by 4 weeks.

    4. Maturity

    • Sexual Maturity: Typically reached between 6 to 8 weeks of age.
    • Egg Production: Females start laying eggs regularly, with some producing up to 200 eggs annually.

    5. Adulthood

    • Lifespan: In captivity, quail can live up to 5 to 6 years, though 1.5 to 2.5 years is more common.
    • Behavior: Adults are known for their elusive behavior and distinctive calls, thriving in environments that allow natural behaviors like foraging and dust bathing.

By understanding these stages, you can better appreciate the care and environment quail require at each phase, ensuring a healthy and productive experience in raising these birds.

  • Hallowell Harvest Farm – Live Bird Policy

Thank you for your interest in purchasing live quail from Hallowell Harvest Farm! We are committed to providing healthy, ethically raised quail to all of our customers, and we strive to ensure that your experience with us is smooth and satisfying. Please review our Live Bird Policy to understand the guidelines and expectations for purchasing live quail from our farm.

    1. Minimum Purchase Requirement

Due to the social nature of quail, we require a minimum purchase of 5 birds. Quail are highly social creatures that thrive in groups (also known as coveys), and keeping them in small groups helps reduce stress and promotes healthier, happier birds. By purchasing at least 5 quail, you're ensuring they have the companionship they need to thrive.

    2. Health & Safety of Our Birds

We take the health and well-being of our birds very seriously. Our quail are raised with care and attention, using regenerative farming practices and raised in spacious cages with outdoor exposure (weather permitting). All live birds are checked for health and safety before they are sold.

In the rare event of an issue with the health of your quail upon pickup or delivery, please contact us within 48 hours so we can assist with a resolution.

    3. Pickup

We offer local pickup ONLY for live birds.

    Pickup Location:

    4. Breeding & Fertility Guarantees

We pride ourselves on our high-quality genetics and high fertility rates. Our breeding groups are carefully managed to ensure strong, healthy offspring. However, please note that there are always factors outside of our control (such as incubation conditions) that may impact hatchability, especially if birds are not being properly cared for after purchase.

For fertilized eggs, we guarantee 60% hatchability for quail. For live birds, we cannot guarantee that every bird will live to its maximum lifespan, as many variables can affect their well-being in the new environment.

    5. Returns and Exchanges

Due to the nature of live animal sales, we do not accept returns or exchanges once birds have been sold or delivered. Please ensure you have prepared an appropriate living space for your new quail prior to purchase.

If you have any concerns about the birds within 48 hours of pickup or delivery, please contact us immediately, and we will do our best to resolve the issue.

    6. Buyer Responsibility

It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that they have the proper setup for their new quail (including secure housing, food, and water). We are happy to offer guidance and suggestions to help you create the best environment for your birds.

By purchasing live birds from Hallowell Harvest Farm, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy. We are committed to ensuring the highest standards of care for our quail, and we look forward to supporting your quail-raising journey!
